The Wesley Fellowship and the United Methodist Church
The Wesley Fellowship at Grand Valley is a campus ministry of the United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church came into being in 1968 with the merger of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
The "Wesley" name comes from our recognition that the Methodist movement in England began while two brothers, John and Charles Wesley, were students at Oxford. Their dedication to take their faith seriously as young adults brought them both derision and respect, but eventually drew people across all classes into deeper faithfulness.
John Wesley's tireless preaching and advocacy for the poor and Charles Wesley's hymn-writing skills brought a message of grace and salvation to many people.
